Female Renaissance Artists Get Their Due This Florentine art restoration campaign is bringing the work of these artists back into the spotlight. A few Flemish and Dutch women became successful, with portraits and still life pictures, but also more family and group scenes than women from Italy portrayed. Italian Renaissance painter Sofonisba Anguissola is a prime example of this. Between the period 1400 to 1650, covering the Renaissance, Mannerist and early Baroque styles there were some 30 known women artists across Europe whose works are recorded and activities documented.
